Does your child struggle with managing time, sustaining attention and following multistep directions? Do tasks like starting or finishing homework and organizing personal items cause your child to be irritable? Many children diagnosed with ADHD and/or weaknesses within Executive Functions need individualized support and strategies to stay focused, organized and on top of their work. Schools don’t always have the resources to work with these students, and this is where an Academic Coach can help.

Julie Griswold, an Academic Coach, meets with parents and students to create a personalized coaching plan to address the management of ADHD in an academic environment. She helps students (and their parents) identify skills that build independence in daily routines, increase focus and break down assignments into manageable tasks. In collaboration with teachers and therapists, Julie tailors an academic plan that utilizes your child’s preferred learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) to support the way s/he learns best. When students have strategies for self-awareness and focus, they are better prepared for challenges both in and outside of the classroom. Addressing these challenges in elementary school can help lay the foundation for success moving forward.

Julie is an Educator with 20 years of teaching/tutoring experience in English, Reading, Writing and Study Skills. She specializes in working with students with ADHD and Executive Functioning weaknesses. She is also a trained Mindfulness instructor (with ResetMind Body) and incorporates Mindfulness strategies into her meetings to help students improve focus, stress and manage self-regulatory behaviors. Julie received MBSR training from Palouse Mindfulness, Mindful Life-Foundations of Mindful Parenting, and the Growing Minds Curriculum. She has a Master’s of Art in Teaching Secondary Education from Johns Hopkins University, a Bachelors of Art from Lehigh University, and holds a Lifetime Educator’s License in Wisconsin. Julie is the proud mother of 4 amazing children, who motivate her every day and continue to provide her with an invaluable education in this field.
